Cornell University has implemented a barcode-based cage card system to track the animal inventory in our facilities.

Important Dates
Conversion Schedule for Pilot Sites
- 1. The Principal Investigator(s) (PI) will be notified in advance of their room conversion.
- 2. Prior to conversion, training will be offered and bar code instruction provided to investigators, staff, and animal care staff.
- 3. Specific room instructions for bar code system will be posted in room.
- 4. The PIs will be notified when room conversion is complete and all bar coding procedures must be followed.
- 1. The new inventory scanning method will begin for all rooms.
- 2. Simultaneous bar coded inventory and manual census tracking will be performed.
- 3. Customer billings will be generated from the manual census tracking. We will be comparing manual census generated billings with bar-coded inventory testing.
- 1/1/2008 – Room by Room Conversion Begins
- Spring 2008 – All Animal Rooms Converted to Bar Code
- Spring 2008 – Physical Inventory Begins and Scanning
