Illinois Researcher Information Service

The Illinois Researcher Information Service (IRIS) allows the Cornell community access to the IRIS Funding Opportunities Database. The database is updated daily and contains over 16,000 funding opportunities in the sciences, social sciences, arts, and humanities. The search capabilities include "quick" or "fine-tuned" options and a keyword thesaurus containing over 2,100 keywords grouped under 45 general categories.

  • The IRIS Expertise Service - Enables faculty members to create detailed electronic CVs ("biosketches") and post them to the Web for review by colleagues at other colleges and universities, program officers at federal and private funding agencies, and technology-transfer departments at private companies.
  • The IRIS Upcoming Deadlines - Allows viewing of six months' of upcoming deadlines in 25 subject areas. The lists are divided into two groups: one group has lists of upcoming deadlines for all academic levels, and the other group has lists of deadlines for graduate students and undergraduates. The lists are organized chronologically by deadline date and contain hypertext links to the complete IRIS record for each funding opportunity.
  • The IRIS Funding Alert Service - An automated search function. Individuals create a customized search profile that is used to locate upcoming funding opportunities. Notification of periodic search results can be sent to the user via e-mail. Registration can be completed in as little as 15 minutes. The instructions are straightforward and the results can be well worth the initial time investment.
