About the Marilyn Emmons Williams Award

Dean Williams

Dean Williams, with the MEWA plaque, and Charles Lo of CURB

The Marilyn Emmons Williams Award (MEWA) is annually presented to the dean, administrator, faculty member, or student who has most contributed to promoting undergraduate research at Cornell University. Named after CURB's beloved advisor emeritus, this award is a testimony to her commitment to Cornell and undergraduate research.

As the first member of her own family to attend college and earn a Ph.D., Marilyn recognized how difficult it could be for first-generation college students to find their way in a large research university. With this understanding, she developed an undergraduate research program that, according to Cornell president Hunter R. Rawlings III, has earned national recognition.

The Cornell community and the Cornell Undergraduate Research Board wish to thank Dean Williams for more than twenty years of service and dedication to undergraduate research. May this award forever serve as recognition to its recipients and for the program that Marilyn Williams instituted at Cornell.
